Game Support Change

Greetings gamers!

If you're wondering where our section on Star Trek Online went, well, we've ended our community support.

We've engaged Cryptic for over a year: showing off what a great fansite can do for a game and listing the benefits, offering to run contests where appropriate, etc.

A certain recent release of a studio-developed tool combined with Cryptic's singularly unimpressive effort in partnering with any community fansite has led BattleClinic to cease promoting the game.

Fansites offer important advantages for players and publishers, not the least of which is helping attract new players and retain existing ones.

There are enlightened publishers (CCP most notably) who embrace their communities and even partner with them. While this practice may not directly contribute to a line item on a balance sheet, BattleClinic and many other excellent fansites are evidence that partnership is far better for everyone than exclusion and profiteering.

    Teloak78 has no influence.

Honestly, if a fansite is not supported by the propriatary owner of the material being advertised then said fansite is a waste of resources, time and energy.

I've utilized BattleClinic for years, playing CoH/V, EveOnline... even had hopes for Star Wars Galaxies to join the fray. All of which I still go back and revisit the changes periodically. However if a game publisher does not offer at least passive support to a fansite, then I feel it would not be in the better interests of maintaining.

I played Star Trek Online for about 5 months, found it rather tedious to get started, and without the support of players/fansites I decided to let it go.

I played STO for about 3 months. I found the same, got borring quick.

I tried to engage STO community members in conversation on things, tried getting info and advertising from community mods on STO forums but had little to no feedback. The majority of forum threads where complaints about cryptics aproach, with little feedback/answers.

Its a great shame, but cryptic are their own worst enemy. STO clearly has the "made for a fast buck" feel about it, as we hear more about their other furture releases. A game like STO should be run like CCP runs EVE, its the priority project, but STO is not cryptics priority project.

    Sad :(
