So which ones, then?
« on: July 01, 2006, 05:21:55 pm »

I've just had MrCue point out to me in a kindly way that my 528,000 skillpoints in learning is far too low.
So far I have;
Learning 5
Instant Recall 5
Analytical Mind 4 (5 tomorrow)
Iron Will 3
Spatial Awareness 1

So, Is there any particular order to these things, or just pick one and go for it?

First you should bring up Int and Mem, both to advanced 4
Then you can go for Perc and Will, again both up to advanced 4.
That brings 9 points to each Mem, Int, perc and will ... and will get you about 1.8m SP when you

Basic learning skills Primery/ Secondery : Memory/ Intelligence
Advanced Learning Skills:
Eidetic Memory: Memory/ Intelligence
Logic: Intelligence/ Memory
Clarity: Perception/ Charisma
Focus: Willpower/ Perception
Prescence: Charisma/ Willpower

For the new peeps out there, if you cannot afford the Advanced learning Skills just omit those from the list until you can. I started EVE again with a new peep less than 3 weeks ago with 0 skills in Learning and right now I have 928,515 skill points in Learning skills. On the list im learning Logic 4. Also for you new peeps, your Attributes are used for how well you learn skills only, not for how well you shoot, pilot, mine or anything thing like that. That is where your Skill Groups come in. I will post more on Skill Groups in a bit.  :)

If you really want to save time on skill learning (since everything you can do will help in the long run), try buying some +2or +3 Implant's. That's if you have the money of course. If you are low then go for at least implants (for now) on Intelligence and Memory. I'm currently learning all my Learning's. So far I have 1,350,000. That will soon change after Install Recal is at lvl 5 (about 3 hours). I'm trying to stay Hard-core in the Learning department. I've got 2.9mil SP and my character is almost 4 months old. I have all +2 implants (except 1). It really helps to have the implants. I think the ISK is worth it to save time.

When i first started off my alt, i bought for him, 5x +3 implants and all the learning skillbooks + cybernetics.

I then sat him in a station until he had 3.4 mil SP in learning. ( he still has adv perc, will and charisma to do) but since he wasnt a combat pilot, those werent important.

He is roughly 1/2 the age of my main character, yet he has only 8m less SP total.

My main didnt train his advanced 4's till a few months after they all came out.

Implants and Learning skills make a HUGE difference, especialy early on.

Thanks, chaps. That's really helpful.

Just as an aside, MrCue, is your alt on a seperate account?
I can only train one person at a time so my alt is just languishing in a station doing nothing. I already pay for two accounts so that my son can play too so I really don't want to pay for a third. There are limits, you know.

Also, Mrs Scrapie would have harsh words at three accounts, I'm sure.  ;)

I did some more reading on this. If your going to use implants, Train Science to level 3 then Cybernetics to level 1 before doing any Learning skills. That way you get the help from the Implants in doing your Learning Skills right from the start. Remember that you will lose your Implants if you get pod-killed. that could be a very costly mistake for most peeps out there, unless you have more ISK then God. Like some players do.  :P I also want to point out that it might be a good idea to train some Basic skills before starting your Learning skills, so you can at least do level 1 missions or basic mining, or what ever floats your boat.

Well thats were we start getting into higher skill sets. Not just with learning the skills to pilot a Cruiser, but gunnery as well and all the other skills youll need to pilot that that Cruiser well enough to do level 2 missions with. With that your taking much more time away from doing Learning skills. Im just trying to get the most bang for my time when training a starting peep.

I remember when I started out, I had no clue on how EVE was played. I remember doing level 1 missions and (mining  :-[) and having fun doing it. I wasent sitting around watching my skill level climb. EVE has a big learning curve for the new player, and in no way am I saying new peeps are dumb. Starting out slow can be a good thing. You have been playing for some time now. You have a better understanding of the game than someone starting out. I happen to be playing this new peep like this is my frist time playing. I wont argue with you about wether its better to do level 1or 2 missions. You still have to do level 1's to get to 2. All im trying to do is help those who want to get through there Learning Skills, and do it as fast as possible.
