CONTEST: The CHEAPFLEET CHALLENGE - Winners Announced!
« on: June 01, 2008, 04:08:41 pm »
Hello all you EFT warriors!  We here at BattleClinic have devised something to test your skills, your minds and your discourse.  We are offering you a challenge!  Yes that’s right a challenge.  We call it…

THE CHEAPFLEET CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!

(crowds cheer, women swoon, babies cry in the background)
Ok so what is this challenge?  Well simpy it’s a contest to come up with the best loudouts you can think of that a fleet or gang would use.  But it has to be cheap!  Yes cheap!  The rules are rather simple.

Rules:

  • Ship classes are restricted to Frigates, Destroyers and Cruisers.
  • The modules are restricted to T1 meta 3 or below (yes the cheap ones, it is a CHEAPFLEET CHALLENGE! If you haven’t figured it out).
  • No rigs.
  • It must be a PVP ship.
  • One submission per ship class per category.
  • Must be submitted with the title of CHEAPFLEET CHALLENGE using the BattleClinic loudout submission form here.
Yes use all caps and have it in the title just like I've spelled it here.
  • Must be submitted before June 18th, 8 AM Central Time.
  • First submissions counts, repeats will be removed.
  • Submission must contain at least 1 paragraph of information that has:
    • Basic Stats (speed, dps, range, align, defense rating, effective hp, resists).
    • Description of flying style of ship.
    • Why you think it’s the best pvp ship for its class and category.  And no, “Zomg its za bomb! Dude!” does not count.
    • Which category it is being entered in
  • There are no maximum skill allowance rules

Categories and Prizes:

CategoriesFrigateDestroyerCruiser
Tackler5 M10 M 20 M
Ewar5 M-- 20 M
Gank5 M10 M 20 M
Tank5 M10 M 20 M
Sniper10 M20 M 40 M
Overall*25 M25 M 50 M

* Overall is not a submittable category.  It will be chosen from the classes for the best overall ship determinable of all ships submitted in each class/category.

Thats a total of 300 Million isk courtesy of MrCue

Most Popular Battleship BPC
Most Original Battleship BPC

The Judging:

Judging will occur in 3 parts.
  • Popularity based on thumbs up and thumbs down
  • Voting by a list of respected BC community experts.
  • Voting by the BC Staff.
Each will receive an equal say in the outcome.
  • Most popular will be awarded to the loadout with the highest popularity rating (# thumbs up - # thumbs down)
  • Most original will be decided by the BC Staff.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for good loadouts, hopefully an example of each ship from each class.  Discussion and argument over them is desired and expected.  Part of our decision will be based around the strength of the argument for your ship as well as the quality of the ship itself.  So argue long and argue hard!  But keep it civil.
Ship submissions will be findable in this thread where you may browse the other submissions with ease.

And submission open up in 54321NOW!

Have fun, we look forward to your loadouts.

Rules update:

Please refrain from editing your loadouts after they are posted.  This is to keep it fair and consistent for later posters and for judging.

If you choose to edit your loadout before the contest ends then that may disqualify your submission and future submissions for that class and category.

Thank you I appreciate your understanding.

CONTEST: The CHEAPFLEET CHALLENGE : Judging
« Reply #7 on: June 03, 2008, 07:06:18 pm »
Judging by BC Staff and our community judges will be conducted over a 10 point scale.

Each community judge will submit a rating and optionally reasons for that rating to the contest coordinator.  (yes thats me).  1 rating per judge per ship.  At the end of the contest ratings will be compiled and publshed and winners will be announced.

Scale will be from 1 to 10 where 1 is the worst possible score and 10 is the best.

BC Staff will submit 3 selections from the entries for most original fitting.  If there is not a clear favorite then the winner will go to the more popular loadout as determined by thumbs up - thumbs down.

Ratings and original fittings selections should be submitted on or before June 20th.  (I need time to compile the numbers)

I will post the winners and stats as soon as possible after all ratings have been submitted and compiled.

Note to all judges!

remember you have 2 days after challenge closes to get your ratings in.  Go ahead and submit them to me at any time even before closing of challenge.  I don't think there will be all that many more entries.  You'll find the master list of accepted loadouts on page 1 of this thread.

Private message me the rating in the following format.

Rating format is this.

1. url link to loadout with ship name and author name as title of url link.  You can use the master list itself to provide your format.

2. Category and Class of ship

3.  Rating
rating along the rating scale of 1 - 10 where 1 is the worst and 10 is the best.  Keep the values as integer values.

4.  Optional official opinion that will be published along with the results.

5. (Optional) Most Original   limit to 3 selections for most original please.

I'll be recording thumbs up and thumbs down Wednesday also so if your going to particpate via the thumbs up and down system you need to do it tonight.  8 am CST tomorrow is the cut off for thumbs up and down.  This goes for all users.

VOTE ON CHEAPFLEET BEFORE 8 AM Central Time WEDNESDAY

To the contestants...

Please be patient... I'm going to do the best job I can on putting together the results.  Be warned it may take me a while.  I hope to have it done by friday evening or saturday morning but no promises...

If you are a winner you will need to provide to myself your in-game character name.  send it in a PM to me when you find out you've won or even before such time.  I will not post or distribute that character name to anyone with the exception of MrCue who will be doing the distribution of the winnings.

To all ...  Congratulations and thanks for participating.  Its been a blast to see all the entries.  And if you didn't participate this time... well theres always the next challenge.   MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Interested Challenge sponsors are welcomed to contact me via Private Message.

  • One submission per ship class per category.

As the question has been raised about what this means... allow me to clarify.

We have 5 categories consisting of tackler, sniper, gank, ewar and tank.  we have 3 classes of frigate, destroyer and cruisers.

ewar doesn't have a position for ewar so with that ommission we have the total possibility of 14 submissions per person.

I hope that clarifies the confusion.

Sniper, yay, almost done. First thing, too many bloody caracals... the lazy persons sniper ship, they all pretty much got low scores partly for the laziness factor, and partly for the time in flight factor.

Sniper Entries:

Frigates:

Ibis by ZergSpartan Rating: 4: lol.. and a surprising range...

Merlin by Mark Interiis rating: 6: Good attempt

Condor by throstur Rating: 2: Not really got the range for a sniper

Imicus by Lavos Rating: 1: Not a sniper now is it?

Rifter by Sytoru Hiroshyma Rating: 2: A couple of sniper mods will have raised the optimal.

Destroyers:

Catalyst by Mark Interiis Rating: 8 : A good sniper Cat, and yes, it rips inties a new one.

Coercer by Ereinion Erinsal Rating: 7: A tracking comp in the mid would have boosted that range to above 40 km.

Thrasher by demonfurbie Rating: 8: Good fit, no it doesnt have the DPS of the Cat, or the range of the Corm, but it has a hell of an alpha which is another consideration to take into account with snipers.

Cormorant by Xkai7263 Rating: 9: Its the range that does it, the Cormy is simply the most suitable destroyer sized sniper platform out there.

Cormorant by Bap181 Rating: Disqualified, even if it hadnt been it wouldnt have been great.

Cruisers:

Moa  by Xkai7263 Rating: Still has Metal level 4 mods, so i am assuming its disqualified.

Omen by Ereinion Erinsal Rating: 3:

Vexor by demonfurbie rating: 9: I love this fit, nice range and great DPS for a sniper

Maller by mike_codename47 Rating: 7: Too many RCU's for my taste, but good range on it for an unbonused ship.

Vexor by boidi Rating: 7 : Again, I love this setup, did some tests and the tracking on the Bouncers isnt as much an issue as I originally thought it might be, not having the 250 mm rails does hurt it though.

Caracal by Lavos Rating: 3: Range is fine... but passive targeter? Guh. I would rather see some resists on it. I also dont like the time of flight of missile snipers.

Moa by simo98 Rating: 10: Very nice

Rupture by David Me Rating: 1

Caracal by infohata rating: 3

Caracal by throstur Rating: 1: Cap mod overload!

Caracal by luminara Rating: 4

Caracal by Death One Rating : 5

Vexor by Doctor Byttner Rating: 1: It takes long enough for missiles to reach target from range, let alone drones.

Vexor by Spyder Murphy Rating: 1

Moa by Koston Ilias Rating: 7: Not sure about the 2 sensor boosters with mixed scripts, dont really need 2 sebo's with T1 guns and ammo.

Vexor by Ereshkygal Rating: 4: Its a nice idea, but just doesnt work as well as the other two Vexor fits.

Arbitrater  by Iris Maelnier Rating: 1: Its time of travel again, too high.

All in all a mixed competition, there have been some dire entries, been some bloody good ones as well.

This is the one I havnt been looking forward to doing... tanks bore me :D

Tank Entries:

Frigates:

Merlin by boidi Rating: 5: As there are likely to be tacklers along another passive shield amp would have been a better choice.

Rifter by Railwh0re Rating: 4

Rifter by Nethras Rating: 5:

Rifter by Sytoru Hiroshyma Rating: 2: Too many cap mods for a PvP setup

Punisher by Doctor Byttner Rating: 8 : Good use of the right ship. Should last well till those cap boosters go.

Destroyers:

Thrasher by Prideful Rating: 3: The mix of tanks is a mistake, could have fitted another MSE and an EM resist amp on there.

Cormorant by boidi Rating: 7: About as good a job as you can do when it comes to tanking a dessie

Thrasher by David Me Rating 7: Another good attempt at tanking a Dessie, not really anything to choose between this and Boidi's

Cruisers:

Maller by Blackhawke667 Rating: 2: Just not enough tank, too many cap mods. Looks more like a mission setup than PvP.

Rupture by simo98 Rating: 9: Thats a hell of a tank, true its slow but its not exactly planning on going anywhere fast is it?

Maller by boidi Rating: 9: Another good tank, seems to be all the Maller is good for.

Thorax by Xkai7263 Rating: 6: Will work if there are multiple ships of this type, but spider tanking takes good coordination and communication to pull off.

Osprey by Lavos: Rating: 2: Resists are not good

Caracal by David Me Rating: 7: Caracal isnt the best tanking ship out there, but a good attempt.

Moa by demonfurbie rating: 9: Good tanking ship, again, slow, but its there as a tank, not a damage dealer.

Moa by Kanezor Rating: 4: The lack of resists hurts this one, EM will chew through it in no time

Thorax by rojomojo915 Rating: 2: Too many cap mods.

Gank Entries:

Frigates:

Rifter by Swalesey Rating: 1: No gank in lows

Incursus by demonfurbie Rating: 3: Too much cap recharge, I would have preferred to see a web and a speed mod, I dont believe there is the CPU for a second magstab.

Punisher by Ereinion Erinsal Rating: 1: No gank in lows

Velator by mike_codename47 Rating: 2 Its cheap at least

Breacher by Takon Orlani Rating: 6 Good fit, but room for some improvements. If the AC could be dropped to free up enough grid to remove the PDS and another BCU dropped in  its place the rating would have been higher.

Incursus by Aegis Osiris Rating: 9: Good, solid gank fit.

Rifter by Sytoru Hiroshyma Rating: 2: empty mid, case of trying to fit too much gank hurts the fit as a whole.

Kestral by simo98 Rating: 9

Rifter  by Simen123 Rating: 1: Not enough gank in lows, too many PDS, and it has a tank!

Destroyers:

Thrasher by ZergSpartan Rating: 1: A tracking comp on a destroyer? Why? Half sniper, half gank, useless at either.

Coercer by Dilalamer Rating:8

Catalyst by simo98 Rating: 9: I love blaster cats, they hurt lots of things.

Cormorant by Prideful Rating: 7 : The corm is a tough one to fit for pure gank, but good go at it.

Thrasher by Simen123 7: It needs a web, other than that it looks fine.

Thrasher by Ltcol 10: Perfect gank destroyer imo, the Cat may be able to lay down more DPS but the versatility of the Thrashers 3 mids just wins it for me.

Cruisers:

Omen by Dilalamer Rating: 6 : This isnt an easy one to judge, I dont like seeing multiple RCU's but then I dont like seeing expensive implants either. Its got a nice DPS though, which helps.

Thorax by bionicamoeba 4: Its an interesting idea, but a blaster boat without a web is at a serious disadvantage. Not only does it stop the other guy running away, but it also reduces transversal which means your guns hurt more. Also, 2 PDS... I would have preferred to see those replaced by a single RCU and a third magstab used.

Rupture by Usaretama rating: 2: Gank, check, web, check... MWD... oh dear. In a close range gank boat you HAVE to have an MWD.

Thorax by Blackhawke667 Rating: 8: A superb fit, what ruins it for me is the requirement for that expensive implant. For the purposes of this challange, if a PDS or RCU been used instead of the EANM I would have given a higher score.

Rupture by Q'uip Rating: 10

Moa by Prideful 9: Moa is not the gankiest ship around but this is an excellent attempt to make it so.

Thorax by boidi Rating: 9

Thorax by Element 22 Rating: 10: Not got the survivability of the plated Rax's or the Ruppy, but its got a hell of a gank.

Vexor by demonfurbie 9: The only problem I see with this is the Sentries are stationary, you are either going to have to scoop them after the fight or constantly have to scoop them then redeploy during it. Hell of a DPS for a T1 cruiser though

Vexor by Death One Rating: 1: Dont mix guns

Rupture by darthkalo Rating: 3: Too many cap mods, no web, good DPS though.

Vexor by Uncle Mo Rating: 8: Not got the DPS of Demonfurbies but Ogres may work better in a knife fight.

Vexor by Doctor Byttner Rating: 1:

Maller by Lavos Rating: 1

EWar Entries: Sensor Jamming, Sensor Dampeners, Target Painters, Tracking Disruptors, Nosferatu and Nuetralizers.

Frigates:

Griffin by simo98 Rating: 8

Reaper by mike_codename47 Rating: 1: It requires an MAPC to fit three mods...

Maulus by Tonto Auri Rating: 6: A solid setup

Griffin by throstur Rating: 2: Not concentrating enough on its role, a distortion amp would have been a better use of the low, and another jammer instead of the MWD.

Crucifier by Ereshkygal Rating: 5: Would bloody annoy a turret ship... putting gank in the lows is a problem though, the ships survival would be enhanced by using speed mods instead.

Griffin by Draeca Rating: 8: Nothing really between this one and Simo's... I prefer Racials personally so I would fly this one myself.

Imicus by Doctor Byttner Rating: 2: Interesting idea but unworkable, small EWar drones just are not effective enough, especially when you can only field 3 of them

Rifter by Sytoru Hiroshyma Rating: 1: Mixed EWar, not ship bonuses = bad.

Cruisers:

Celestis by AkiU Rating: 7: I would have gone higher, but I am still not certain about its effectiveness. Its a very interesting idea though. Gets my vote for originality. That aside, three damps, bonused ship, so its a solid damp fit.

Blackbird by MonkeYRev Rating: 8: Classic blackbird fit, nothing more to say than that

Celestis by boidi Rating: 7: Another really interesting idea, and this also gets a vote from me for originality. Nice use of scan res damping scripts which will make it a real pain in the backside when the Jamming (either from drones or Blackbirds) kicks in.

Blackbird by Marikhal Rating: 2: Cloak hurts lock time, and with EWar lock time is key. Another ECM and something useful in the highs would have made a far better ship.

Vexor by Lavos Rating: 6: Good idea, replacing a PDS with an RCU and fitting an EANM on instead would have worked far better.

Celestis by simo98 Rating: 7: I prefer a bit more speed on my damp Celestis's, the energy transfer is a nice touch if there are a bunch of you fitted like this though.

Vexor by Doctor Byttner Rating: 2: Time to travel of drones, trying to do too much with the fit leading to a very confused and unfocused loadout.

Blackbird by Uncle Mo Rating: 5: My main problem with this is an ECM boat shouldnt be hanging about once its being fired on, it should have left and come back in onto another sniper spot. Losing the Sensor booster for the cap booster can hurt also, especially when you HAVE to get that interceptor bearing down on you jammed fast so you can warp out...

Bellicose by Timathai Rating: 7: Not a lot wrong with it, I think some other cap mod rather than the cap booster would have been better...a cap battery possibly.
Sorry about the delay, this is the first lot, I'll send them as one message per catagory to make things a little easier.

Tackler Entries: Warp Scramblers, Warp Disruptors and optionally Stasis Webifiers

Frigates:

Executioner by MonkeYRev Rating: 2:
Too many slots taken up with cap recharge modules, lack of low slot speed modules could also be considered a problem

Vigil by Blackhawke667: Rating: 3: Its a good fit, but requiring all level 5 skills and a PG8 implant is in my mind a serious problem. Would have been better dropping the artillery for AC and forgo the requirement for the PG8.

Vigil by bionicamoeba: Rating 3: Speed is good, but use of nos on an out of web range tackler strikes me as somewhat odd. An AC/Nos/Scram fit might have worked better than the mixed range setup here.

Incursus by Takon Orlani Rating: 2: The plate slows this thing down too much, and to be frank a DCU on a frig is going to stave off the inevitable by about a second. A couple of ODI's or an ODI and a nano would have been a far better use of his lows.

Condor by Daggaroth Rating: 1: Afterburner means this is far too slow, had it been an MWD it would have been a more workable fit.

Griffin by Prideful Rating: 4: It was an interesting idea and may work in frigate gangs, the main problem though is the lack of speed. This is more a second wave tackler than a first catch.

Vigil by boidi Rating: 6

Vigil by Railwh0re Rating: 6: Again, a solid beyond web range tackler, personally I would have accepted greater cap drain and gone for an additional ODI or nano in place of the cap power relay.

Rifter by Sytoru Hiroshyma Rating: 1: Too many cap mods, and the single damp is useless for the range the ship is operating in.

Executioner by Doctor Byttner Rating: 6: Works well, a beyond web range tackler doesnt need an Istab though, would have been a better choice to put an ODI or Nano in there instead

Rifter by rockstara rating: 7: Good close in tackler, the lows work well to get a good tight orbit. Its going to blow up, but it will get the job done

Destroyers:

Thrasher by boidi Rating: 6: Speed is ok, decent buffer. Destroers are not really good tacklers but a decent attempt

Thrasher by Falcord Rating: 2: An interesting idea but not really a primary tackler.

Cormorant by Ereshkygal Rating: 5: I think an ODI or an Istab would have been better in the lows to beef up orbit speed somewhat.

Cruisers:

Thorax by Xkai7263 Rating: 4: It will work, but the Plate simply makes it too slow for my liking.

Bellicose by boidi Rating: 5:

Stabber by demonfurbie Rating: 7: Does the job, not sure about the cap booster though.

Stabber by Orbitz Dawn Rating: 2: This would have been my winner... until I noticed it was a warp scrambler not an inhibitor... so orbiting at 18 km you wouldnt be able to takle the target.

Caracal by throstur Rating: 2: Too many cap mods,  the target painters are not really required with the Assault launchers, I think this would have benefitted from an shield extender and another speed mod in the lows, possibly a web as well.

Arbitrator  by Antarr Rating: 3: More a solo ganker than
