The D'dredar Heavy Cruiser stands as a synthesis of the old and new Romulan design aesthetics, demonstrating close a close developmental relationship to both the older Vas’Deletham and the newer D’deridex. The D'dredar proved to be a capable warship with a more well-rounded arsenal when compared to other large Romulan warships. The D'dredar was also one of the last Romulan warships to make use of photon torpedo technologies, the bulk of the Romulan navy having converted to the far superior plasma torpedo several decades before. Once the D’deridex took its place as the Romulan’s primary heavy cruiser, the remaining D'dredar Heavy Crusiers were rotated into reserve fleets performing garrison duty in the backwater segments of the empire.

Description:	IRW Syrinx D'Kazanak class warbird The IRW Syrinx was a prototype for the D'Kazanak-class warbirds in the 2360s. The ship was placed under the command of Commander Valak who was assigned on a mission by Praetor Darok to investigate what the Romulan Star Empire believed to have been a secret Federation base at Hermeticus II. The D'Kazanak-class was a type of warbird starship constructed within the Romulan Star Empire. They were a built in secret with only rumors of their capabilities. It is said that no one knew anything about these ships and those that attempted to breathe a word about the specifications would suffer under the penalty of death. Even the location where these ships were being constructed was not known. The ships, like most Warbirds, would be constructed in orbit of a planet, and it was rumored that they were created above one of the more remote colonies within Romulan space. It was known that the D'Kazanak-class was larger, faster and more heavily armed then the D'Deridex warbirds. The ships were constructed with the intention of combatting the Federation Galaxy-class starships, and surpassing their advantages. Previous warbird designs were known to suffer from a lowered warp drive capability when compared to Starfleet ships. The D'Kazanak-class would have rectified this problem with efficient warp drives that would match the ones used by the Federation. It was also rumored that this class of ship had a newer generation of cloaking devices which would eliminate the "ghost effect" which sometimes rendered cloaked ships visible to enemy sensors. The ship was also rumored to be equipped with more powerful photon disruptors rather than standard disruptors. What was one of the most dangerous rumors regarding this starship was that the cloaking device would allow weapons to be employed, which no other cloaked ship was capable of at the time. The ship class was created and named after Lord Kazanak, the high caste Romulan son of a member of the Romulan High Council. Though it was an impressive and deadly design that the Romulans believed would ensure their victory against the Federation, the design was never mass produced after the destruction of the prototype vessel. An ambimorph disguised as Lord Kazanak convinced the Romulan Council that the vessels suffered from serious design flaws which prevented more of these vessels from being constructed.

Description:	D'tallax Torpedo Warbird ------------------------ A smaller, abridged model of the popular Warbird lineage, the D'tallax Torpedo Warbird is a shortened hull that loses most of the rear hull section in exchange for a more efficient and streamlined energy coupling system which allows the hull to mount no less than six plasma torpedoes fore and two aft. The D'tallax Torpedo Warbird is used for quick strikes on enemy targets, decloaking at optimal torpedo range, delivering its deadly payload, and then recloaking. Such sniper attacks can easily wear down enemy formations making it easier for other D'deridex Warbirds and support craft to dispatch the fleet later. The fact that another power was using an enlarged version of a warship design they considered their own struck a blow against Romulan national pride. The Klingon K’Vort Bird of Prey helped to cement the dissolution of the tenuous Romulan/Klingon alliance, though the alliance had been little more than intellectual for some time. The Romulans designed and quickly deployed a design similar to the Klingon K’Vort. Less robust and equipped with sub-standard shield systems, the D’vas Bird of Prey was incredibly well armed for a ship of its size. Like the Vas’Calabams before them, the Romulans chose to install two deadly plasma mortars in the forward weapons pod the Klingons typically designed for their torpedo weapons.
