Peregrine NCC-1936 Peregrine Class Light Cruiser Owner: United Federation of Planets Class: Heavy Combat Vessel In Service: 2280 Out of Service: n/a --------------------------- Intrigued by the platform of the Romulan Bird-of-Prey first encountered in 2266, a team at Starfleet R&D in the 2280s set about applying Romulan design principals to one of our own starships. Using a new-build Miranda Class hull as a basis, and christened USS PEREGRINE in deference to its bird-of-prey design origins, the ship proved highly maneuverable at warp speeds thanks to the wide-span nacelle struts. These ships are capable AUXiliary carriers and are operated as such. The Peregrine Strike Fighters operated from Shelley Class Carriers support those launched by other starships, such as the Akira Strike Cruiser. Poseidon NX-78010 Federation Poseidon Class --------------------------- After the success of both the Prometheus and Sovereign class starship design, Starfleet decided to make a more rounded class of vessel, which could carry out the diplomatic functions of the Sovereign whilst being as well armed as the Prometheus. With this in mind, Federation Tech Division put into production the classified project "Harbinger". Whilst being practical the original starship prototype blew itself apart due to a crack warp manifold that was missed in preflight testing. As a result the design was placed on the back burner for months. Only when the Federation was faced with the Dominion threat did the project re-emerge, but under a new name - Project "Poseidon". With many of the technology of both parent classes of vessel the prototype USS Poseidon (NX-78010) was launched with great trepidation. Thankfully this time around the ship performed magnificently, and a full run was put into operation. The war with the Dominion ended quickly though, and as such to date, only two Poseidon Classes have been in full operation. The USS Poseidon is currently exploring Romulan space whilst her sister ship, the USS Voyager (NCC-74656-A), is currently on manouvers in the Gamma Quadrant. ------- - Original kitbash by USS Pheonix (released for BC). - Models used: Sovereign Class mesh original by Pneumonic81, Prometheus Class mesh originally by Lord_Bile. Princeton NCC 59804 Niagara Class Heavy Cruiser Owner : United Federation of Planets Class : Capital Ship Availability : Unlimited Deployment In Service : 2336 Out of Service : n/a Source Star Trek : The Next Generation, "Best of Both Worlds" ------------------ The Niagara Fast Cruiser is a cruiser hull designed at the same time as the Ambassador Heavy Cruiser. Where the Ambassador was built to maximize the amount of firepower on a single starship frame, the Niagara was instead designed to be faster and more manueverable than other mainline cruisers. The design proved wanting, with the extra speed and tactical flexibility of a third warp nacelle being overridden by frequent break downs and other maintenance problems. The Niagara was kept in service as a priority courier and deep range patrol ship, but it did not see as much services as other Federation hulls. In the mid 2360's the Niagara's, together with their smaller cousins the Freedom class, where refitted with Galaxy class nacelles in order to enhance their acceleration and turning ability, important to a ship which is more biased toward combat than most Starfleet ships. Class production began in early 2336 and was completed after a thirteen year run which put one hundred and nine ships into the fleet. Like most Starfleet vessels the Niagara's saw very little combat activity in their early careers thanks to the stable nature of the Alpha Quadrants political situation prior to the 2360's. However, this state of affairs was not to last; several Niagara class ships fought at Wolf 359, including the USS Princeton. The USS Wellington received a computer upgrade from the Binars, one of the first Starfleet ships to undergo this procedure - the same ship was later involved in the incident at Garon II in which Ensign Ro Laren was held responsible for the deaths of eight people.
